Thanks Tarah! Yeah, the Vortex bowl does look pretty awesome! I was actually telling my roommate about it tonight, thinking it would be a nice addition to our collection. It makes more sense than the other funnel bowls. At least from a logical standpoint. Makes more sense that the airflow would come through the shisha instead of through a hole that goes straight to the coals. lol. SO yeah, I'll check it out. I am definitely a low maintenance kinda guy so the less i have to do to make it work, the better. And I'd rather not use three coals just to heat the bowl. One 40mm or two Coco Nara coals sound better to me. But I'll give it a chance and post my experiences. Thanks for your message! Smoke any good mixes lately?

From what I gathered, you put the silver handles upside down and up through the bottom of the bowl so the end that stick into the binder clip are peeking out of the center hole in the bowl...if that makes any sense, lol.

Jono, you didn't mention the vortex bowl! Its the best one I've used. As for the phunnel, someone on hookah domain used two silver handles from binder clips to keep enough air flow.

Jono

I might know what went wrong with your phunnel bowl. try poking alot of small holes everywhere, even on the center + 3 natural coconut coals spaced like a triangle, with each coal close to the outter ring as much as possible; and possibly pack it a little less tight than how your friend did. thats usually my set up, i get great both thick smoke + great flavor. just a thought

keep up the great work w/ the blogs, i read them all the time.

Steve M, thanks for submitting your comments. In regards to the Phunnel (funnel) bowls, I actually tried Starbuzz's Caramel Apple through my friends funnel bowl. The experience wasn't a good one. If you have advice to make it better I'd love to hear it. You see, we had a hard time getting any smoke at all. My friend did claim that he packed it pretty tight, which he maybe shouldn't have. He poked the holes around the perimeter of the bowl, leaving the center alone. We used two CocoNara coals on opposite ends, but NO SMOKE. You could tell from the tiny amount of smoke that the flavor was excellent, but the funnel bowl just wasn't set up right.
Suggestions?
Thanks Steve M!

Jono, Thanks for the great post. I wanted to chime in -- +1 for the Old School Rotator Hookah w/ a Nammor hose. This is a super combo. I bought both of mine at the same time several months ago, and I like everything about it. That is one great smoking combo.

You talked about bowls, and I was surprised you didn't mention the phunnel (funnel) bowels. They seem to be my favorite at the moment. They hold the juices better, so the smoke stays thicker and more flavorful longer. Just my $0.02.

Keep up the good work!
