Shisha, shisha everywhere – which one do I smoke?

We have a lot of shisha. How much? Literally, tons. Naturally, we can understand the jaw-dropping, head-spinning loss that some people feel when trying to select a new brand or flavor. In this blog, you’ll find a brief rundown of each brand, so you have some idea what to expect. We’ll start you off easy until you learn all of your personal preferences!

Top 5 Shishas To Try

starbuzz-blog

Starbuzz: Starbuzz is yummy, they have simple flavors, and is easy to use. Just toss it in a bowl, and you’ll be in fruity bliss in no time. Not sure where to start? Here’s a helpful Starbuzz Shisha flavor guide to help you get started.

nahkla-blog

Nakhla: Unwashed and uninhibited, Nakhla keeps it real with the most classic of flavors. Buzz junkie? Nakhla has quite a bit more nicotine than your average shisha, so hang on to your couch. You’ll notice more of a “tobacco” hint to all of Nakhla’s flavors.

romman-blog

Romman: A well tended bowl of Romman can smoke up to 2 hours, keeping it’s flavor all the way to the end. Romman uses high quality tobacco, too, so once the flavor finally dwindles, the smoke will coast to a graceful denouement without the harsh, bitter taste of bad tobacco.

tangiers-blog

Tangiers: This shisha can be a little tricky. It takes some finessing to get to smoke just right, but it is largely regarded as the tastiest and buzziest shisha out there. You may want to use a Phunnel Hookah Bowl for this tobacco, to keep the “shisha juice” from dripping down the shaft and flavoring the smoke unpleasantly. Noir is the traditional line, Birquq and Lucid require less climate acclimation, and F-Line adds a caffeinated kick that will smack you in the mouth!

shiazo-blog

Shiazo Steam Stones: Shiazo Shisha Steam Stones use flavor-injected porous rocks to produce a nicotine-free, smoke-free vapor that is smooth, long-lasting, and surprisingly delicious!

Presenting all of our shisha options, in alphabetical order:

Al Amir: Even a novice hookah smoker will recognize the list of traditional flavors that Al Amir produces. One may consider Al Amir a mid-range tobacco, as the smoke quantity, flavor quality, and price are all balanced in the middle range. Some smokers report that all Al Amir flavors have a characteristic “Al Amir sweetness” to them.

Al Fakher: Served across the Middle East, Al Fakher may be regarded as the “Coca-Cola of shishas” because of its universality. Al Fakher is somewhere between a mid-range and a Premium shisha; its flavors are bolder and longer lasting than other tobaccos, though less than Starbuzz or Romman. Personally, I find Al Fakher’s Watermelon particularly delectable. This brand is also available in Al Fakher Arena (more contemporary flavors) and Al Fakher Herbal (tobacco-free).

Al TawaregWant something long on flavor, but you’re short on dollars? Romman delivers with it’s new Al Tawareg line. Exercising their experience in big smoke and juicy flavors, Romman created Al Tawareg to be a shisha as good as it is affordable. When comparing it to other similarly priced shishas, you’ll be amazed at how much more smoothly Al Tawareg smokes. While you might not get the same multi-hour session from Al Tawareg that you can from Romman, you can expect at least 45 minutes to an hour of flavor and smoke.

Al Waha: Al Waha (Arabic for “the Waha”) is a reliable, lower to mid-range hookah tobacco. Boasting some unique and signature flavors (such as the minty chocolate of After 9 or the hard-to-describe fruitiness of the popular 5 Stars flavor) among some traditional staples, Al Waha is a great shisha for shorter bowl sessions or more manageable hookah budgets.

Coco Nara Shisha: Coco Nara has long been a trusted manufacturer of natural hookah charcoal. Expanding into the shisha realm, Coco Nara is ready to not just heat your bowl, but to fill it up as well!

Dokha: Dokha (Arabic for “dizzy”) is a type of dry Arabian Tobacco that’s smoked out of a medwakh pipe. It is very popular in the U.A.E. and other Middle Eastern countries. Dokha contains high levels of nicotine and is not meant to be smoked out of a hookah, only a medwakh. An intense smoke for an intense person!

Fantasia: Fantasia’s contemporary flavors will keep you entertained for a while. With sleek packaging and assertive taste, this mid-range shisha has a couple of flavors so good we have trouble keeping them on the shelves (especially Pink Lemonade). Not sure what the flavors taste like? Check out our Fantasia Shisha flavor guide.

Fumari: We’re happy to welcome Fumari’s unbeatable smoke and long lasting flavors to our Premium line of shisha along with Romman and Starbuzz, with 100g and 1000g packaging and huge-smoking flavors! Specializing more in the contemporary and exotic than the traditional flavors, Fumari’s smoke quantity will impress you. Don’t be surprised to find your hookah full of “Santa Clause’s beard” type smoke after only a couple initial pulls. Fumari’s Blueberry Muffin is often touted as one of the best flavors in existence!

Fusion: Offering such smoking fare as Guava Raspberry, Kiwi Strawberry, and even Nuts, Fusion plants its flag firmly in the territory of mid-range exotic flavors. Fusion is abandoning its cardboard + plastic packaging for the more popular tins, but its gently omnipresent flavor will remain the same. Fusion’s smoke production needs no improvement, and fans of lighter flavors will find some quick favorites here.

Havana: Havana’s tobacco is both affordable and delicious. Featuring mostly classic flavors, Havana is a playground for the hookah mixologist. I was particularly impressed with the bold base notes of Pipe Tobacco flavor, though it may not be for the faint of heart.

Hookafina: One of the newest brands to join us here at Hookah-Shisha.com, Hookahfina is certainly smooth and delicious. It’s flavors last just as long as the Premium brands, and you’ll get great smoke for the duration. We also love their sleek metal cans!

Hookah-Hookah: The shisha so nice they named it twice! Hookah-Hookah tobacco is a long-cut shisha with a distinctive flavor lineup. Offering such exclusive and delicious flavors as Graham Cracker and Butterscotch, they have something unique for every taste.

Hypnosis: From the producers of Starbuzz Shisha Tobacco, Hypnosis is a great tasting shisha that’s softer on the wallet, with the same great Starbuzz smoke. Stocking up for a party? Looking for an easy gift for a hookah enthusiast? Grab a few boxes of Hypnosis to be prepared.

Inhale: And exhale. That’s how easy it is to smoke Inhale shisha tobacco. With flavors as playful as their can designs, Inhale offers a shisha experience that’s just all around pleasant. Nothing to rock the boat here – their flavors don’t knock you over the head with intensity, but permeate the air like a flower’s redolence. This mid-quality shisha will smoke longer than brands like Al Waha and Havana, but not quite as long as the Premium brands.

iPuff: It’s time to upgrade your shisha to the most recent flavor operating system! Made in the U.S.A., iPuff tastes great and smokes so divinely that even Siri would suggest it. Made of high-quality ingredients, iPuff tobacco is finely cut and very juicy, which produces long-lasting smoke and huge smoke clouds.

Layalina: A favorite of our fellow hookah enthusiasts in Germany, and available widely throughout the Middle East, Layalina provides creamy smoke with tasteful, well rounded flavors. Offering affordable, mid to high-quality tobacco as well as a superb, Premium line of Golden Layalina shisha (for increased smoke production and longer-lasting flavor), each flavor we’ve tried has been a treat.

Nirvana Super Shisha: This hookah tobacco is mixed with Nirvana Dokha, which is a strong type of Arabic tobacco. What makes this shisha “super” is that the dokha has heavy levels of nicotine, which places Nirvana Shisha very high on the “buzz scale.”

Romman: One of our four Premium shishas, Romman tastes great and smokes long. From personal experience, a well tended bowl of Romman Mint (for example) can smoke up to 2 hours, remaining minty ’till the end-y. Romman has recently added a few flavors more in a contemporary style, but still focuses on getting traditional fruit flavors just right. Romman uses high quality tobacco, too, so once the flavor finally dwindles, the smoke will coast to a graceful denouement without the harsh, bitter taste of bad tobacco.

Social Smoke: Social Smoke features some exclusive and easily loveable flavors. With a good mix of the traditional flavors (mango, guava, etc.) and signature flavors (Tiger’s Blood, Mobster, etc.), there’s a great variety of smoking experiences available in this brand.

Starbuzz: Another of our proudly-presented Premium puffs, Starbuzz will fill your mouth with as much flavor as it will your hookah with smoke. With contemporary flavors inspired by metropolitan lounges, Starbuzz offers something for everyone with a balance of fruity, sweet, and unexpected (Lebanese Bombshell tastes like cedar wood, but is surprisingly fantastic). Not sure where to start? Here’s a helpful Starbuzz Shisha flavor guide to help you get started.

Starbuzz Acid: Joining up with the cigar brand Acid, Starbuzz Shisha Tobacco released four special edition flavors for your smoking enjoyment. Each flavor is an intriguing mix of nuances and suggestions, all with that same great Starbuzz smoke. Sadly, this brand had a limited run, and is hard to come by these days.

Starbuzz Bold: The same smoke quality you know and love from Starbuzz, but a little less of that characteristic Starbuzz sweetness. Looking for something a little different? Try Starbuzz bold! Not sure where to start? Here’s a helpful Starbuzz Shisha flavor guide to help you get started.

Tangiers: Tangiers is something to behold. This titan of unwashed tobacco wields a buzz that could have Nakhla veterans sitting down smiling. This ultra-wet shisha is quite heat sensitive, so go easy on the coal. This tobacco requires some conditioning and special treatment before smoking, so be sure to read the information sheet that accompanies it.

Sultan Asfahini Tombac: a way of smoking hookah old-school style. Tombac is basically unwashed, unprocessed, unflavored tobacco leaves that you smoke by placing hookah coals directly on the leaves. Tombac is VERY strong and is not recommended for beginners. Tombac my leave a strong tobacco taste in your hookah, so it’s recommended to wash your hookah immediately after use and to use a dedicated hose for it.

Tonic: Following in Starbuzz’s footsteps with clever contemporary flavors, Tonic is one you can smoke all night long. Not too strong, not too light, Tonic’s flavors are so smooth, they seem to smoke themselves.

Tobacco-Free, Nicotine-Free Options

Beamer Gel Ice Drops: Beamer Ice Drops are small pieces of gel that have been injected with glycerin and other flavor fluids that when heated with hookah charcoal, produce steam instead of smoke. This method of hookah smoking is ideal for those that prefer to use non-tobacco alternatives in their hookah, hookah lounges in cities with indoor smoking bans, and international customers that want to experience delicious flavorful smoke without the risk of tobacco import duties.

Fantasia Herbal Shisha: Fantasia is now offering 20 of their most popular shisha flavors in an herbal formula. Fantasia Herbal Shisha has all the great flavor you expect from Fantasia, without tobacco or nicotine.

Hydro Hookah Vapor Stones: From the makers of Hydro Herbal Molasses comes Hydro Hookah Vapor Stones, a great tasking, long lasting, and huge cloud producing tobacco-free alternative for your hookah. Composed of porous rocks that have been injected with glycerin and other flavor fluids, Hydro Hookah Vapor Stones produce steam rather than smoke.

Hydro Herbal Shisha: Finally, a nicotine-free, tobacco-free herbal shisha…that actually tastes good! After testing numerous alternatives to tobacco shisha, we’re delighted to finally discover herbal blends that meet our unwavering standards for flavor and smoke production.

Shiazo Steam Stones: Shiazo Shisha Steam Stones use flavor-injected porous rocks to produce a nicotine-free, smoke-free vapor that is smooth, long-lasting, and surprisingly delicious!

Evolution Tea Shisha: We’re happy to add to our selection this revolutionary (or should we say evolutionary?) brand of tobacco-free, nicotine-free herbal shisha. Made with 100% natural tea leaves, Evolution produces a more robust smoke with long-lasting flavor, a much needed welcome for fans of tobacco-free shisha.

One wonders if you make some note as to which of these are washed and which unwashed? Two are unwashed but this is not noted in the rest. I do not car for unwashed and will not make purchase if I cnnot see at once whether or no the ma’assel is washed.
    I thank you.

    hello,

i love your site, and i recently made my first order from your website, and i anticipate its arrival (it should be today!)

however, im wondering why you do not carry any layalina shisha? i have been a fan of layaline for a couple of years now, i think the overall quality is above average, but for the price i consider it outstanding.

do you have any plans to sell layalina in the future? is there any specific reason why you dont carry it?

    Al-Waha is also unwashed.

I’m with Chris. I like the Layalina brand as well, and have to go to a local Egyptian shop to buy it – not that it’s a bad thing, but the contraty; it’s just a long drive.

This is an awesome site, with one thing missing: pharoah’s! it’s cheap and has some good flavors to it. Once you stock pharoah’s, this site will become my one-stop shop for hookah.

You guys are awesome. I didn’t have the pleasure of ordering my first hookah from you, but I can say that it is because of this site that I sought out a hookah, to which even pipe tobacco smokes great out of.

I am deeply impressed by the wealth of knowledge here, (im smoking out of a McGuiver’ed bowl as im writing this), and intend to purchase some of your wonderful shisha, as well as some equipment to improve the quality of my smoking sessions.
(I still cant figure out why anyone would burn tobacco after trying this.)

It would be nice if you could carry another brand of non-tobacco, non-nicotine shisha, I tried the Hydro and did not care for it. I have tried the Evolution brand and the watermelon rocks!!

    Crystal Says:

(Sorry, just realized my post was better placed in this post!)

I just ordered my first Nammor Hookah, and I’m pretty sure I’m having some operator error in terms of the quality of my smoke.

I’m packing my bowl loosely with flavored Romman shishah. I make sure to not pack it all the way to the top of the bowl, and I’m using the screen with larger holes that arrived with the hookah. My smoke is thick, but the flavor is almost non-existent. My shishah seems to be in good shape. I bought it less than a month ago, store it in an air-tight container, and it still is wet and sticky.

What can I do to improve the intensity of the flavor of the shisha? The flavor lacks so much that when someone smoked my hookah, they thought it was unflavored. :-(

if you could get some hookah-freak in stock that would be amazing! if im not mistaken it is hookah-hookah brand’s “premium” line. they have very unique flavors and most websites only carry the 100g tins so if you could offer the smaller and larger tins you would def have the leg up!

i like the very “earthy” flavors myself that have alot of tobacco flavor and that buzz hard. is unwashed best for this?

    George Says:

Hello guys can you tell me whats the best tobacco to smoke?

  21. 21
    Chris Says:

Okay people. As with pretty much any other product in the world, every shisha brand is going to have hit and miss flavors. I love Al Fakhers Cherry, but hate Fantasias Cherry. And you have to remember shisha is an art. Sometimes your just going to get a bad batch. I would recommend trying pretty much any brand. Romman, Al Fakher, and Fantasia are my favorites

  22. 22
    Frank Says:

Which one has the highest buzz? Thanks

  23. 23
    Katie Says:

Hi Frank, Tangiers and Nakhla are the ‘buzziest’ tobaccos because they are unwashed, which means they have retained the most amount of nicotine.

  24. 24
    Jake Says:

I have found that nakhla has an amazing buzz, but it has more of a tobbaco flavor. I smoke alot of romman, and i love it! the older flavors (ie from the clearance shisha) have more trouble retaining its flavor, so just pay full price for something great! i have found that some batches are more flavorful than others, and it is best to buy in the 250g containers. to insure you get a good batch. It is unwashed, but has plenty of flavor, so be ready for a 1.5-3 hour smoke sessions! (you may try a larger bowl for longer sessions)

I am seriously considering becoming a hookah and shisha guru, explaining what i love about shisha flavors and what could be improved. for now you can email me for questions and comments until i set up my web page.

I agree with Tyler. I got a 250 gram tub of haze mango and its a favorite already. So much flavor. And it takes heat really well.
