Where I am from when you pass the hookah you bend the hose so that it is pointing towards you and the person that you are passing to must tap the hand of the person passing the hookah.

Very good points sonny,but the “not touching your hosts hookah” rule will prevent any accidents involving improper handing. Id add that trying to puff on a hookah like a cigar is sometimes considered offensive and is ineffective,you should draw the smoke with your lungs. Be sure not to take on more smoke than you can handle,as coughing excessively can also be considered offensive.

1. Never light a cigarette on the coals.
2. Never ash of a cigarette in the hookah tray.
3. Don’t lift the hookah in the stem always in the base.

If you are smoking you should know all of these rules. The one not listed, hopefully everyone just knows it, is not to do anything to a hookah that is not yours. Very often a guest will try to work coals or adjust hoses, ending mostly in burnt floors. Also, please don’t tell stories while working a single hose. The only thing people will hear is the silence where water should be rumbling.
