Hookah flavors are at their best when their smoke tastes like the real thing.  So when Al Tawareg announced they had come up with an All American Whiskey hookah tobacco, my first thought was to grab a bottle of Knob Creek Whiskey to see if it was authentic or not.

First, I loaded my hookah bowl. Then I opened the bottle of whiskey to compare their aromas, and I gotta tell ya, they were real similar. So far, so good! Then I poured myself a shot of whiskey to sip on towards the middle of my hookah session. About 5 rips in, I could taste that well known oak-aged whiskey flavor coming through. The aftertaste is almost the same without that burn in your throat and stomach. But now it’s time for the real test. One or two whiskey sips later, it was obvious that this hookah flavor was simply a milder version of the actual whiskey – which is a huge success!

Since whiskey is traditionally mixed with cola, it only makes sense to try Al Tawareg All American Whiskey hookah tobacco with Al Tawareg Creamy Cola. While I do think Social Smoke Shisha Tobacco should spend a little more time in their “naming shisha flavors” meetings, the end result is a product that, despite its name, is worth smoking and telling your friends about. Social Smoke Voltage is, again, not a name that suggests what it’s going to taste like. Voltage makes me think about that time I stuck my tongue against a 9-volt battery to see if it was dead or not. Ouch. Let’s just load the hookah bowl and end all speculation, shall we?

The bag smelled like a seriously strong orange starburst with a lemonade punch. The taste was a well balanced blend of fruit and lemonade – reminiscent of pink lemonade. Social Smoke Voltage shisha tobacco is not overpowering in the slightest, and in my opinion, one of the better lemonade shishas around. Social Smoke claims Voltage is watermelon, lemon, and almond. Honestly, if almond and watermelon are in this, they’re merely contributing flavors. You probably won’t pick them out. I assume they must make up the “pink” in this pink lemonade flavor. But I have to say, it’s real good. Super refreshing!

Clearly, Fantasia Shisha Tobacco’s marketing team has been targeting a “club scene” audience with shisha flavors like Apple Martini, Adios Mofo, Incredible Hulk, and even more recently with Mai Tai and Yäger Bomb. It also seems that they’re willing to be a little controversial. Now they’ve released what could be their most edgy shisha flavor to date with Fantasia 4 Play. I’m pretty sure they’re not referring to a group of friends sitting around a kitchen table playing Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble. So with that bit of knowledge, I welcome you to use your imagination. That’s obviously the idea behind naming their latest release 4 Play anyways.  What could it taste like though? With a name like that, the possibilities are endless.

Since smell is such an important factor in what a shisha is going to taste like, let’s begin there. Not to give it away too quickly, but Fantasia 4 Play smells like a very, and I mean very deliciously sweet watermelon. And man is this stuff juicy!  I recommend using a Vortex Bowl for this one. The smoke is real smooth, fruity, and mouth watering. 4 Play is one of those shisha flavors where the heat of your hookah coals is really going to bring out that sweet Jolly Rancher watermelon flavor. They should have named this stuff “The closest thing to a watermelon flavored Jolly Rancher without getting sued!”

All joking aside, Fantasia 4 Play shisha tobacco may not have the most original flavor, per se, but the watermelon flavor they did make is really good.  To be honest, I’m glad Fantasia is having a little fun with their shisha flavors. Fantasia Shisha Tobacco is known for taking mixed drinks with obscure names and turning them into the latest shisha craze. Examples: Adios Mofo, Incredible Hulk, Mai Tai, etc. One of their newest “bar room sensations turned hookah lounge flavors” is Surfer on Acid.  I had to google the phrase Surfer on Acid cocktail to learn that the mixed drink consists of Jagermeister, Coconut Rum, and pineapple juice. Sounds more like a Pina Colada roundhouse kick to the face than some shark bait surfer. But the proof is in the pudding, as they say, so let’s give it a go and see whether or not Fantasia Surfer on Acid shisha tobacco is the Big Kahuna.

The smell is almost identical to pina colada. Aside from the obvious pineapple coconut aroma, you also get something a bit more like cherry, but I don’t think that’s it exactly.  Whatever it is, Fantasia Surfer on Acid smells delicious! Now the flavor is one that I recognize, and you will too. It’s basically Pina Colada without that thick creaminess. I didn’t get a distinct coconut rum taste, nor did I get any hint of Jagermeister, which I don’t see as a bad thing. The only real confusing thing about Surfer on Acid is why Fantasia decided to make a shisha flavor so much like one that already exists. The upside is that it is different enough and is really good!

Whether or not it’s a distinctly original shisha flavor, Fantasia Surfer on Acid is a flavor that a ton of people are going to love! I’m just glad Surfer on Acid shisha tobacco didn’t taste like sand or surfboard wax. That would’ve been a little too real for me. Tell us what you think! Have you ever picked up a glass of coke and taken a drink only to realize the glass was full of milk instead? Kind of messes with your head, right? Well this happened to me when I smoked Al Tawareg Citrus Lemon hookah tobacco. I’ve never really been a fan of lemon flavored hookah tobacco so when I saw citrus lemon in the title, I wasn’t thrilled to say the least.  But I give every hookah flavor an equal and fair opportunity to impress me.

Once I opened the box, the strong smell of candy lemon drops filled the air.  If it tasted like it smelled, I was in for a nice hookah sesh. With 3 Coco-Nara coals on my Vortex Bowl, I dove in head first to Al Tawareg Citrus Lemon. Then it happened. The coke vs. milk moment! I tasted Orange! Wait, what? Orange?  Yes. If lemon is in this, it is underneath this sweet freshness that can only be compared to the taste of a tart, acidic orange peel with a bitterness like a grapefruit. Maybe it’s my misconception of what a lemon hookah flavor tastes like that is throwing off my evaluation. I’m halfway expecting that face puckering sour effect that lemon fruit causes.

But let’s focus on the good, the smoke is super thick (so thick it would rival Starbuzz any day) and it’s a really good citrus hookah flavor. Not to mention the price is ridiculously affordable, which I’m sure everyone can appreciate (after all, it’s lower than a gallon of gas these days)!

Every time Fantasia releases a new “mixed drink” flavored shisha, I always have to use Wikipedia to know what flavor to expect. It’s educational to say the least. Their newest release, Fantasia Mai Tai shisha tobacco, sends you straight to an island paradise on the rocks. But what does Mai Tai taste like, specifically? Let’s find out!

The first thing I noticed as I started puffing away on Fantasia Mai Tai shisha tobacco was how intoxicating it was. I mean that in the best way possible! It definitely gives you that “what up…  I’m in de club” vibe. Thick clouds of smoke. The actual flavor of Mai Tai is very fruity and tropical. Which means (drumroll please) there has to be some pineapple! Yes indeed. You’ll also notice a bit of lime and some other fruits blended in that I can’t quite put my finger on. Maybe it’s cherry and/or orange and/or pomegranate. Whatever it is, Fantasia Mai Tai is without a doubt really good!

I would order the 200g jar of Fantasia Mai Tai if I were you, because the 50g box is only enough to convince you that you love it!  And you will.
