This is a thick rubber hookah base grommet that seals the connection between the hookah's metal shaft and the glass hookah base. These hokah grommets are the same that come with our Syrian hookahs and Egyptian hookahs but will fit on other hookahs of comparable size. These are available in three sizes: Small: The small Egyptian base grommet will fit into hookah bases that have openings approximately 1 1/4 to 1 3/8th inches in diameter. This grommet will fit our Scarab Egyptian Hookah and Nile Egyptian Hookah.
Medium: The medium Egyptian base grommet will fit into hookah bases that have openings approximately 1 1/2 inches in diameter. This hookah grommet will fit our Sphinx Egyptian Hookahs.
Large: The large Egyptian base grommet will fit into hookah bases that have openings approximately 1 3/4 to 2 inches in diameter. This grommet will fit our Pharaoh Egyptian Hookah, King Tut Egyptian Hookah, Syrian hookahs, and Khalil Mamoon Hookahs.
Note: Most Egyptian hookah glass bases are made by hand and therefore every hookah base's opening is unique. We have many different base grommets in various sizes and thickness to account for the small nuances in base size. Unfortunately, this means there are no “standard size” Egyptian hookah base grommets in the hookah industry and the base grommet that you receive may not fit your hookah perfectly. There are several tricks that you can do to correct this, however:
If the base grommet is too small and your hookah stem leans to one side, you can correct this by affixing electrical tape around the hookah shaft. This is explained in further detail in our Hookah Love Blog Hookah 101 – Zen and Art of Hookah Maintenance.
If the grommet is slightly too big to fit in your base, we recommend wetting or applying lubricant to the base grommet and “twisting” the hookah stem into the hookah base. If you are unsure of which base grommet will fit your hookah, it’s always a good idea to get one that may be too thin rather than too thick, as it is much easier to “thicken” a base grommet than it is to “shave” one down to a thinner size.
