It definitely works, as i've smoked hookah for 12 years since I was 13. Theres a definite change. I recommend this to everyone.
This does a fantastic job at filtering the nicotine and making the smoke smooth but I found that the carbon that is in it is too fine and the screens are poor, after replacing the screens with high quality stainless steel ones and the carnon with pelitised carbon the pull is 100% better. I also place it in the hose port and plug the hose on to it, this way you avoid any condensation in your mouth. The carbon really does need replacing or drying out between bowls as condensation creates drag.
I believe this filter reduces sometimes acrid flavor one can get from some coals. I do believe it adds to a smooth smoking experience. However, the charcoal covering inside is sometimes faulty and you get a mouthful of charcoal when inhaling. I've replaced the little screen with other materials (a paper towel will work). Fine screening from the hardware store would work too.
