The tray on this is the same size as my Bambino.very small the coals will touch the bowl grommet also the tray forms condensation so your coals will get wet. And yes it will rust very quickly even with proper care unless you treat with rustoleum. I have had two of these the first rusted really bad after a few usesI dried it out goodHardly has an effect on the smoke.
The ice chamber works as it should, gets the major portion of the stem cold. However as mentioned in one of the previous reviews, some initial prepping will be required to avoid rusting. What I've done is, I sanded down the inside of it completely, and then applied a few coats of rustoleum ("stops rust" variety), since the smoke never comes in contact with it, you should be fine once the application is completely cured.
went through two of these, rusted to the point the stem fell off. should have to mod something youre paying for just to make it not terrible
it works great i use it constantly and suggest it to everyone. just buy the right paint tape off the outside so not paint gets on it and paint the inside and bottom and then use plumbing sealer that is the right kind take chamber to a hardware store and explain what you want and need. it will rust at the bottom and start to leak, if you do not prep it for use. it is work the extra effort for the best cool smoke. i do not bother to put ice in the base at all with this great product device
I have the Ice Torrent and this baby makes the smoke session tons better. the inside does rust, but it doesn't affect the smoke at all, because all it does is cool it down. not only does the bucket get ICE cold, but the entire stem. when i make my bowl right, using the right amount of coals and foil etc, the smoke actually feels cold. like a mint type feeling almost. my friends have told me this as well without me even having to mention it. definitely a great buy
It does the job but really doesn't make the session noticeably better..
After putting ice inside of this thing just once, the inside is now completely rusted. You'd think, since this is to hold something that's going to eventually melt and be wet, that it would be stainless steel like the rest...but nope... =(
