The pieces can be awkward to use, and they do smell like a campfire when you light them, the the odor isn't terrible strong - But they are easily the cleanest tasting coals i've ever used!! I highly recommend these for veteran hookah smoker!
Bought this to try out - I usually smoke coco's and haven't had a problem - Set-up my new Mya QT and placed some small pieces of this lemonwood coals on top - Got it started and found that the smoke was coming through pretty harsh! Then tried it again on my Mya Econogon and same problem - 10min into the bowl and just harsh! took the coals off and popped on some cocos on - NOW i cant complain! i have tired the lemonwood coal with 2 medium sized chunks i cut up and then again with much smaller pieces so i knew i was not burning the tobacco and same deal! i would not recommend this to anyone - just stick to the coco's and you wont have a problem!
I'm now converted to natural coals - Yeah it's not as convenient as little cubes, but the cooler burning and quick light time makes up for it -
Picked these up on recommendation of a friend from Jordan - While useable, these are best suited for actual hookah cafe with multiple hookahs in use - Stick to coco nara for home use -
It seems like no one had written a review about them for years and here i go - I have used natural coals all my life and hate the quick lights because of their awful taste ,and these coals doesn't have a bit of tasteBefore using these ones i was a fan of coconara but when i will never buy cocos again because of their weird taste on the background They don't last as long as coconut based coals but it has certainly clearer smoke compared to them ,and beside by putting new coals to top you don't just burn the same part of bowl for 30 min like u did in coco's Even tough it's a bit ashy they are great coals and if you know how to handle the heat management don't look for anything else -
These are some really nice natural coals. They do come in large chunks that need to be broken down. I use 1 large chunk to go across the top of my Mya vortex hookah. Works Great! My first experience with these I used Rommaan Berry Breeze and Vanilla shisha mix, added ice to the base. Very nice clean smoke. Shisha never once went harsh! No weird charcoal after taste either. When cleaning up for the night though, i noticed alot of ash! Defiantly an outdoor coal But very nice!
These coals are ok. They have no flavor and light fairly quickly. That said however be aware that they smoke like crazy while lighting, they ash a lot and they have a tendency to split once lit, which can ruin your carpet. Also they are supplied in big chunks that you have to break up to use. Not bad for the money but I'm sticking to CoCo's.
its probably because im spoiled by cocoraras and exoticas but i am defiantly not a fan of these. when they say natural wood charcoal they really mean it. these things are burnt chunks of wood.
At first I was a little put off by the HUGELY varying sizes of individual coals and what it took to light them. I had been told that once you figured them out they produced an outstanding smoke so I spent a couple nights figuring them out and I couldn't be more pleased. There is little to no smoke off of these and they're nearly flavorless. I had one weird coal that tasted and smelled a little sweet, it actually improved the flavor of the shisha. What I've been doing: 1.Lighting them directly on an electric burner or my butane camp stove. 2.Using one large nearly covers the screen piece or three small quick start coal size pieces. 3.I only light one side, let it burn for a minute, place it on the screen lit side up, then put the wind screen mostly down coals last longer doing this. Note: The small pieces burn out a little faster than I like but lighting another coal or two fixes that problem right up.
Picked these up at a local smoke shop to hold me over until my new shipment of Coco-nara arrived. Not a huge fan of the Romman coals. Sizes are inconsistent, and it's a pain trying to cut them down. These coals also created a lot of smoke when heating, making my room smell like a BBQ. Finally, they didn't burn nearly as long as Cocos. Final verdict: Stick with Cocos, you won't have to deal with the hassle and mess, they have virtually no smell, and they burn forever.
after going to lowes and getting a blowtorch to lit the coals it wasnt worth it, stick to self lighting
Excellent for a true hookah experience. Tips: take the time to break up the coals into manageable sizes when you first open the bag. Let them get ashy before using and you'll get NO smoke. Many of the "bits" at the bottom can be placed in a metal tea ball and lit on the stove - perfect for shorter sessions (ie cheaper lemon shisha with your saturday morning tea!)
I was not a fan of these as mine seemed to spark/splinter/split while lighting on the stove sending embers everywhere. Sizes are very inconsistent. Maybe I got a bad bag.
The coals take a while to burn and do have a harsh smell while being lit but when placed over the clay bowl there is no trace of charcoal taste throughout the session. There have been some pieces which were too small to even try out but overall it has been a good experience.
I hate putting a bad review for a romman product but these coals just arent my cup of tea. I bought a bag to test them out, figured for the price, and sicne they are romman, they must be good right? Eh not so much. Sure the bag is a pound, but dont think you can use ALL those pieces. Some are too tiny, others look like something I would pick out of a bon fire. The coals that ARE the right size are hit and miss as well. I try and stay away from the ones that still seem to have bark on them as they tend to explode and set carpet on fire. Ask me how I know. All in all, fine for use in a pinch (like last night for me), but not something I would use on a regular basis. Stick with Exotica, still the best I have used to date.
