HookahJohn Bowls & Accessories @ Hookah-Shisha
By SmokeOrPass / July 9, 2019
We strive to bring you the best hookah products in the world, so you can have the same legendary sessions that happen in our warehouse.
Hookahjohn has provided us with these types of high quality products, while also making a name for himself on the way. We’ve carried his creations for the past decade, so we know a little bit about the rise in popularity for his accessories and design changes over the years.
All of the Hookahjohn products that we provide can be used by any skill level of hookah smoker and if you’ve never heard of him or his accessories, we’ve got a blog for you.
The first product to hit the market from John were natural hookah charcoal called Chronic Hookah. These coals gained a huge following as the desire for a natural heat source continued to grow, and the Chronic brand became what is known today as Titanium Hookah coals.
The Titanium series began with flat and cube size charcoal in 1 kg boxes, as well as the famous lounge cases (10 x 1kg packages). This was followed shortly by an in-between size known as Cubettes, the mini cube design provides more heat than flats and less than cubes. The Cubettes are great for Tangiers Birquq, Fumari, and Al Fakher, but you can use them on whatever tobacco you enjoy.
This charcoal collection is crafted with the use of natural raw coconut husk and it ranks as one of our top selling coal brands to date. The long lasting heat output and minimal ash are the key features for this brand, and the consistency of these two points is why it has received so much high praise.
Friendly reminder, if this is your first time with natural charcoal, you’re going to need a charcoal burner and about 9-12 minutes. Only use fully lit charcoal for an optimal smoking session.
What would naturally come next after creating a quality heat source? Bowls! Since his initial bowl release in the mid 2000’s, John has introduced several bowl designs into the market and the current lineup has been scaled down to 5 great bowls.
These bowls are handcrafted in the US with the use of thick American clay and skillful clay artisans. The gloss and matte finish glazes applied to each bowl are lead free for your safety and leave you with a long lasting color. You can find all of the bowls listed below, in our Hookah Bowl section.
If you’re looking to save on shisha usage while having a great hookah session, the Alien bowl is perfect you. It’s the first bowl ever to be released in the Hookahjohn series and boy is it shallow!
The Alien was introduced as the perfect bowl mate for Tangiers smokers because of the ease in dense packing without using too much tobacco. The original design featured a super wide spire but the bowl began to narrow as new bowl colors were introduced (see blue bowl on left below).
After more tweaks were applied to the Alien bowl shape, people began to desire the old school design which lead to the creation of the Flashback Alien bowl.(see blue bowl on right above) You’ll only need about 13-15 grams of shisha for and 2-3 pieces of natural charcoal for an excellent session.
It still on our list of suggested bowls for dark leaf tobacco like Tangiers, Trifecta, and Lavoo shisha. We'd also recommend this accessory for anyone looking to test out Tangiers flavors without having to use a heavy amount of shisha in your dense pack.
The Alien was enjoyed by many but interest at the time lead to a wider bowl with more interior space. This bowl didn’t have the same focus on just being a dark leaf bowl because it worked well with anything style of tobacco, shall we say harmoniously.
The Harmony bowl adds almost an inch to the diameter in comparison to the Alien, bringing the diameter total to 3”. The increased surface area made it extremely easy to get an evenly cooked bowl for experts and beginners.
This bowl skyrocketed in popularity while receiving multiple changes to the spire size and depth over a 6+ year span. It started to get a little too deep (see left brown/green bowl below) for the fans liking and chants rang out for the older design (see right brown bowl).
The Retro Harmony was introduced boasting a similar design to the original with an updated glaze job. The bowl diameter stayed the same but the spire expanded as the depth decreased. The current rendition of the Harmony requires around 18-25 grams of shisha depending on your tobacco choice and packing method.
We panicked after seeing the words “80 feet“ on an invoice, but luckily the bowl that arrived measured approximately 3” tall. It was originally categorized as shisha saver but John saw room for improvement and increased the efficiency of reducing shisha consumption.
The new shallow interior design went on to be known as the 80feet80 bowl and it requires only 13-16 grams of shisha. These bowls are favorites within our office and the hookah community because of it's compatibly with different types of tobacco and heat retention.
It's easy to knock out a lengthy 2 hour session with the 80feet80 bowl with minimal effort, as long as you have evenly secured hookah foil.
What happened next should come as no surprise….fans wanted the OG design back on the shelves. John, being a man of the people, resurrected the design and gave it the fitting name 80 Feet Ressurection.
The resurrected bowl features the original tapered central spire and a slightly deeper interior. This bowl requires 18-25 grams per session and you'll get to choose from a unique lineup of colors only available for the resurrected model.
The 80 Feet is the only bowl series to have it's OG and updated model available at the same time, they're both that good.
As a bowl designer in this day and age, your collection isn’t complete unless you have something for heat management devices.
When your foil takes a day off, the Ferris bowl is here to provide a snug fit for your HMD. Did anyone get that joke?
The Ferris hookah bowl is essentially a Harmony with a raised lipped exterior, and deeper bowl depth. You can use this bowl with the Lotus 1 & 2 devices as well as the Phoenix HMD. Just like the Harmony this bowl is compatible with several styles of tobacco, and the extra depth gives you more time in your smoke session.
This is the heaviest bowl in the HJ collection and the clay composition retains heat extremely well, helping you achieve an evenly cooked hookah session. You'll be using anywhere from 25g to 35g because almost everyone prepares their bowl differently for their HMD sessions. This is both the least & maximum amount grams we've seen produce successful bowls, but as always have fun and cater your sessions to your liking.
What do you do after you’ve created so many popular products on the hookah market? That’s right, you have an expo!
In 2019 we were at the 3rd annual Hookah Expo Worldwide at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This two day event took place August 3rd-4th and it was 100% open to the public.
All of the major US hookah vendors like Al Fakher, Trifecta, Fumari were on display featuring unique show booths and new products. We also saw some new brands from overseas exhibiting for the first time. Unfortunately due the corona virus there was no event for 2020 but we're hoping to see all the hookah fans this year.
If ya see us there give us a HIGH FIVE!
