Shika Farouk Hookah

The Shika Farouk hookah will be the heaviest hookah from their collection, coming in at 13.75 lbs, standing at 34", and it features a solid brass exterior with a high level of hand carvings. The Farouk will arrive with a bell shaped glass base and it will display bold gold accents. This hookah will also contain a washable hookah hose, tongs, and a oblivion hookah bowl.

About the Farouk

The Shika Farouk is a handmade hookah, featuring a brass exterior and a copper downstem. The brass exterior features a great deal of handcrafted etchings - the hub is a bell shape, with plenty of curves and symmetrical lines. The stem features a beautiful crescent moon and star symbol which you can read all about below.

Your Farouk's wide copper downstem means you'll be able to pull in a large amount of smoke with ease. The bell end cap shape of the downstem's gauge will make it difficult to place a diffuser there, but the gauge is rather wide which means there will be minimal restriction and a nice, classic rumble noise.

The copper composition of the downstem is a great aspect because it means you don't have to worry about it corroding or rusting over time; it also means your hookah will have a long life as long as you take good care of it. Copper also doesn't hold onto strong flavor profiles very well, so with one quick rinse your Farouk will be ready for your next smoke session. Additionally, copper is naturally antimicrobial, meaning it kills 99.9% of bacteria it comes into contact with within two hours of exposure - this includes bacteria such as MRSA and E. coli.

The coal tray on the Farouk is made from solid brass and is handcrafted using a single hammer and nail. The intricate geometric shapes found on the tray are an artwork that spawned due to an ancient Islamic law forbidding the depiction of humans or animals in art. While this law was not regularly followed in the secular world, it did contribute to the development of this beautiful style of art.

The Crescent Moon & Star - a History

The moon and star symbols adorned on the stem of the Shika Farouk hookah are often associated with Islam, but the history of the Crescent Moon and Star is far older than its popularity with the Islamic faith. It dates back to ancient Palestine, to a group known as the Moabites (14th/13th century - 6th century BC) who used the symbol as a seal. The crescent moon and star (or stars) were commonly found as seals, on coins, etc., throughout the region for centuries.

The crescent moon and star symbol was found in Palestine, Byzantium (Constantinople/Istanbul), Persia (Iran), parts of ancient Greece and early Rome, and even as far east as India as a part of the Mughal Empire.

Finally, after thousands of years, the crescent symbol - without the star - was first found on Muslim flags during the Crusades. Depictions of the symbol appear in depictions of the flags from the 14th century.

The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (1628-1658) had the crescent moon and star symbol inlaid on his personal shield, and his son Aurangzeb is known to have used it in Mughal flags and sheilds. However the Mughals used the symbol featuring an upward facing crescent moon - quite like the one found on the Shika Hilal Hookah.

The crescent moon and star symbol we are familiar with today first appeared on flags of the Ottoman Empire in the 18th and 19th centuries. The symbol now adorns the flags of numerous countries, organizations, territories, and several hookahs!

This thing is a beast!!!!! This is a beautiful piece of art compared to other hookahs! First of all it feels heavy duty built to last so dont worry about having the need to be overprotective - Its all solid brass man made from the tip to the watet base - It smokes amazing!!!! Smooth big clouds, easy to clean - - - no ghosting! The hose is pretty big and bulky so you may want to downside to a silicone lighter one - The phunnel bowl is amazing, actually you can pick it up without getting burned - This Shika Hookah is a must for your collection!!! After a few smokes I really consider selling my Art Hookah and KM Shareef - - - no need for these when you got this bad boy!!!!

This thing is a beast!!!! Weighing at almost 15 lbs - This hookah is heavy as heck! Feels like an iron gate! This is the most beautiful arab like hookah I have ever owned and smoked! This thing feels like your smoking out of a tank! Makes my KM hookah feel like a weak piece of metal - First the hookah stem is amazing! All brass heavy duty with man made carvings make this so unique - The hose is long and heavy I would recommend not using a mouth piece on it also the hose grommet is bigger than the KM I used electrical tape to cover up any air pockets if so - The water base is big heavy and wide! The bowl is also amazing almost as big as a Sahara Goliath - The smoking sessions are amazing big clouds, sturdy, very tough sound when you intake - - sounds very solid!!!! If you can afford or find one of these Shika Hookahs - - - grab one!!!! This is a hookah you show off to your buddies and brag!!! Sorry KM but Shika Hookahs have taken the lead!!!
