awful coals, almost as difficult to start as the coco naras but the ash is ridiculous - i have no better explanation for that ash than 'clay like' it sticks to the coal and you have to use a knife to remove it unless someone has found a better way - They also have a verrrry unpleasant buzz after smoking a while, and i smoked with great frequency before these coals with coco naras - If i were a store owner i would point you in the direction of the coco naras and trash the exoticas -
Of all the coals I've tried natural, not natural, quick light and not, these by far are the best - I light them in my broiler on high and they get great heat - The ash is so much cleaner than any others as the ash doesn't fall onto the bowl, rather I pick them up every 30 minutes or so and ash them into the tray - There is no chemical flavor with these and they give great even heat - The only bad thing and it's not even bad that I can say about them is that the sizes of the scored pieces is a little too big, though I manage to make them work just fine by hanging the longer ones off the side of the bowl for a while until it's time for rotation - A DEFINITE BUY!
They are a little too big for the bowl I use but I just break each section in half and they work just fine - Each one goes for about 20 mins and are rarely too hot -
I tried these right after I got off of instalights and they are better than them - But after I've smoked with Coconaras I have to say that these make your shisha taste like - Also heat management is much more difficult with the long bar shape it's in - I don't reccommend these - They ash like crazy and that seeps into your bowl too - Go for some coconaras instead - It's worth the extra couple bucks -
I'm a big fan of natural, accelerant-free coals - These do offer a clean smoke, but that's where the "good review" stops - They ash like crazy, I've spilled more ash on the floor using these coals than I ever did using other brands - The faintest breath of air sends ash flying - Not to mention because they are not round they don't sit securely and even on a stable table and every attempt to keep the shisha and foil flat they wobble - Last but not least, I have to use two squares to decently light an average hookah bowl and it's too much - One is too little, and they burn out before we can even finish the bowl - I really do not recommend these -
Let me start off by saying even though I rated these 'bad', they aren't terrible - They are annoying, and there are better things on the market - These come in logs - In order to have any control over the heat management, you will have to cut them down even further than how they are already 'pre-cut' - The 'pre-cut' logs can sometimes be easy to break, other times be hard - Most of the time it isn't that bad, but the action of grabbing and breaking them leaves black coal dust you have to wash off - Even when they were cut smaller into cubes, the heat seemed - - - off - It was much, much easier in every respect to just use Coco-Nara or Starlight coals -
Tried these coals for the first time today, and they produce awesome clean smoke! I have used quick-lights in the past, and with a light from the stove these last much longer and give a much better tasting smoke none of that chemical aftertaste - Also as for the CO warnings, I have a digital CO detector that I am blowing directly into and it is reading zero! Not sure what they other guys are doing differently, but no danger here -
I have used many different coals, and the Exoticas are definitely my favorite - They light easily on a stove unless you have a glasstop stove - - - And now that they come prescored you dont have to cut them, just break them at the score - The scored size seems a bit big, but really its the perfect size for a normal sized bowl - No taste if you light it thoroughly - The trick is not to mess with it too much; use the ash around the coal as a insulation to prevent your bowl from burning to hot - All in all, great natural coals -
I have been using Exotica forever! I love that it doesn't make a mess when heated up - No chemical smell and especially because it last a very long long time!
I've tried them all - Quicks and naturals - I use to use coconuts till I tried these and haven't been back - Burn great, easy to separate into individual coals, and no coal taste whatsoever - I got all my hookah smoking buddies hooked on them too - Will not disappoint - A++
This charcoal is the best which I ve ever used - No smell, long lasting and clean - -
I smoke A LOT of hookah, as do probably all of you do - And these are by far my favorite coals I have ever used - In summary, I like this style of coal natural but not a branch of a tree, and burn better than coconutsplus square+precut=awesome - They ash some as do all naturals but are well worth it -
Hate this product, hard to cut.
Been using these for several weeks now and I love them.
These coals are okay, They ASH A LOT and quickly too. There is an odor that i smell from it, but its not noticeable when smoking. Smokin Marv comment is true. My detector also showed a steady 35ppm in the room and if i blow directly towards it spike to 75pmm. That is atleast 7x more CO then you would get cooking over a stove. I don't smoke that as much as Marv, so it never hit a steady 60ppm. I will assume if i ever use more then 1pc it will go that high. As for easier way to breaking them. I break at the score, then make my own score on the top and bottom. I take a wrench to hold down one side and just push down over under a towel to not spread the mess. The scoring well help make a cleaner/even break. It will get a negative feedback just for the substantial CO, but if you are left with only Exoticas, open a window or smoke it outdoors with a windscreen cause it ashes alot In the mean time, i will stick to coco naras.
